Gel is built to last, but how you treat it in the first 24 hours and every day after makes a big difference.

• Oil your cuticles daily. A drop of cuticle or vitamin-E oil keeps the nail flexible so the gel bonds longer and doesn't lift at the edges.
• Wear gloves for cleaning and dishwashing. Hot water and detergents are the number-one cause of early lifting and dullness.
• Don't use your nails as tools. Opening cans, peeling stickers and scratching labels is how chips and cracks start.
• Re-seal the tips. If you feel a rough edge, message Jacky — a quick top-coat refresh can add another week.

Daily nail and cuticle care

Healthy nails start at the cuticle. Push back gently (never cut aggressively), moisturise your hands and nails morning and night, and drink plenty of water. In Davao's heat, hydrated cuticles are far less likely to split or hangnail.

Regular polish, gel, or extensions — which should you choose?

• Regular polish — affordable and quick, perfect if you like changing colours often or need a neat look for a single event.
• Gel polish — high shine and 2–3 weeks of chip-free wear. Ideal before a trip, a wedding, or a busy stretch with no time for touch-ups.
• Extensions — added length and shape for a dramatic, elegant look. Shorter sets are easy for daily life; longer almond or square shapes make more of a statement.

Safe removal — never peel your gel

Peeling gel takes a layer of your natural nail with it and leaves them thin and weak. Always have gel soaked off properly. If you've booked a new set, Jacky can remove your old polish for you — just add "Polish removal" when you book.

Cut straight, not round — preventing ingrown nails

It's common to round the nail corners to follow the fingertip — but especially for toenails, this is the number-one cause of painful ingrown nails, where the skin grows over the corner and presses in. The fix is simple:

• Trim straight across. Leave the corners square and just above the skin line.
• Don't dig down the sides. Cutting into the corners is exactly what invites the skin to grow over.
• Soften gently. Lightly file only the sharp tip — never round the corners deep.
• Leave a little length. Cutting too short lets the skin push up against the nail.
